Yes, there are players that are inherently better than other players.
But.....the differences can be fairly small.

To me, player-wise, not enough attention is paid to overall intelligence and football intelligence. For example: Kenny Britt has off the charts physical skills. But, he will never be a winner because above the neck he is not disciplined nor does he display good judgment.

Put an intelligent, gifted player with a good coach and good scheme, and you get a winner.
Put that same player with a not so good coach and not so good scheme and you get a lot less.

I don't believe that the Pats are the most talented team year after year. But they have sufficient talent, and the players they do have, have at least a football intelligence. It works because they consistently have some of the best coaching and best scheming in systems that adapt to the players' skills. Players are truly "developed".

It's a small sample size; however McVay seems to be a master of not only designing and implementing a high level offense, but also of managing coaches and players. He'll get better at game management as he gets more experience.

When you see players playing as well and better than they ever have, and getting better game by game and year by year, you can bet it's the coaching and scheme.

Well said. Not enough credit given to scheme and coaching.
