I figured Snead was so tied to Fisher that he was a goner (and if you listen to the understated Snead, he thought he was a goner, too). But I have a hunch that like myself, Kroenke and Demoff weren't so sure whether this hot mess was about Snead picking the wrong guys, or it was the wrong guy coaching them.
Well, the results are in. This was ALL on Fisher. Snead's picks are blossoming before our eyes and his FA pickups have been very good. And this past draft might just have been his best from the standpoint that it resulted in 3 starters even though we didn't have a 1st round pick.
Anybody that thinks packaging picks and moving up for Goff was Fisher's idea must not have an idea of Fisher's history. He simply doesn't put THAT much stock in offense, let alone a QB. Oh yes, he wants a competent QB who doesn't turn the ball over.
I have no absolute evidence of it, but to me circumstantial evidence says it had to have been Snead who campaigned for Goff and got Kroenke and Demoff behind it (from a pure business/marketing standpoint). It is just too opposite of who Fisher is as an HC to be otherwise.
But......while Snead has done a good job, let's see how much legs all this has. It is the test of time that matters most. If 5 years from now this is a team that is constantly being replenished with young studs and is invariably in the playoffs (think Pats, Steelers), then I think we can mark Snead down as one of the top GMs in the League.
And, has been mentioned, there is a clear chemistry between Snead and McVay. I imagine the personnel department's job just became a lot easier since they know exactly what to be looking for that fits the mold that McVay has specified. And Snead is near ego-less. He has made it clear that he sees his job as getting the players that fit the HC's vision; not his own vision.
And, with McVay's and Snead's youth, they are likely to be a team for a long time. And stability is going to be quite important, now, going forward. Hopefully it'll be a decade before we see any wholesale changes.
