That's more the way it was in the '70's.

Slow progress building a team, some trades, draft. The Rams did it that way, but could never get past Dallas or Minnesota in the NFC championship game. Now days, free agency has changed everything. Sometimes playoff teams don't make it back. Rarely do wildcard teams make it anywhere, but it happens. The Rams' goal needs to be a division championship, maybe at least a 2nd seed. Just my thoughts.
