This statement in the article caught my eye: "Because they are playing in a temporary facility until their new Inglewood stadium opens in 2020, the Rams are required by the NFL to play one game overseas each season." I wasn't aware of this requirement.
Back in 2012 it was announced that the Rams would play a regular-season NFL game in London in each of the following three seasons, first facing the New England Patriots in 2012. Then Kroenke backed out of that agreement. I remember Rams fans at the time being relieved. Unbeknownst to us in 2012, Kroenke knew the relocation was coming and that it would include the requirement of playing a game overseas for 3 years. By agreeing to play in London for 3 years (2012-2015) it would have really meant the Rams playing a game overseas for SIX years which wouldn't fly with the fans at all. I'm thinking that's why they backed out of the first agreement.
