I think one difference is, to me, whether or not they are in the playoffs this year isn't of much consequence. I asssume that if they are, it's gravy.
But as you say that's just a "to me" thing.
....
Thats pretty clear in your posts.
Yours is probably a minority viewpoint, but it's perfectly understandable if you view next year as the expected playoff season and not care much about whatever comes this year.
Me, I like gravy. I usually put extra gravy on my Thanksgiving turkey.
Well I do care. I enjoy every win. But my take on the team is that they have a first time head coach with a new offensive system, 3 new WRs they have not quite integrated yet, and a by definition inconsistent young qb. So, my wishes don't outrun my analysis. And neither has anything to do with my enthusiasm, which runs strong. Goff is not "there" yet and that's even acknowledging that he is exceeding all expectations. He has the arm talent and the mindset and all he needs is more experience responding to different defenses. Which, he is getting.
We all like gravy. If the Rams make the playoffs it will be gravy. And not the messy Tryptophan Day kind either.
