I think we are seeing a Rams uprising that will last longer than 3-4 years. McVay is very young and has almost no ego (Downfall of GSOT, IMO......Martz) McVay, IMO, is better at coaching average players to higher levels. Martz had an all star team. Not saying we'll be in the Super Bowl or even the playoffs EVERY year but I bet it will be a LONG time before we get a top 10 pick again.
I think that's potentially all true. But the defense needs to straighten out---the GSOT included 2 years of good defense . Doing it as points/yards, the GSOT defense ranked 4th/6th in 99 and 7th/3rd in 2001. And of course if there is going to be a longterm strong team, eventually they will have to replace Phillips.
If anything should happen to Goff, knock on wood, I expect that this crew will find another qb. It sounds far-fetched to expect that but I do.
Meanwhile to reach that status, the leading franchise status we saw in 99-2001, Goff has to keep growing and developing.Right now for example we don't know if he's a comeback kid type. We also know that while he's developing some defenses will throw him off for a game or 2 here and there, so we really don't know his ceiling yet.
BUT your main point, that McVay is (from all appearances) a better personality for long term success than Martz---agreed. He's more like a Vermeil with some Martz in him than a Martz.
