Good take overall. I agree with virtually all of it.
And I singled out the bit on Higbee only because it says exactly what I think when I watch him. I don't know what it is but he doesn't add up, as a receiver anyway, as a real keeper. Some say his blocking is good.
I see this as McVay staying two steps ahead, lifting Higbee up after a fairly underwhelming rookie year. His stouter frame potentially makes him a much better general purpose TE than Everett. When he and Everett are both in, who do you think draws the tighter coverage? Gotta be Everett; so Higbee should be open. Then, if Higbee gets it all together... and Everett becomes a decent blocker? *Yowser!*
