The thing with Aaron Donald (and Co.)

August 31, 2017 12:56PM
Is that none of us really know what is going on behind closed doors. Nada, zilch. Everything is speculation, with a couple of tidbits thrown in by journalists (and in this era of fake news, who even knows about the accuracy there). I can see that the Rams don't want to do anything that would create a difficult position going forward, that is, that would make Donald want to leave the Rams at the first opportunity. He is a rare specimen at his position, potential HOF material. At the same time Donald's advisors are making this extremely difficult. The Rams hold the advantage and really wouldn't even need to negotiate and still have him on the relative cheap for the next 4 years. Surely Donald's agents are aware of that. The Rams have already shown one card on the table, in an attempt at good faith, that they admit he is underpaid and are willing to re-negotiate a valid contract. So far Donald's camp is treating that as a waste of effort on the Rams part. Again, realizing that we have no idea what is happening in private, I would say that if Donald does not report by Monday, that the Rams will take the position that further negotiations will require Donald's presence practicing with the team and playing in games. No hard words or threats, no public displays of contempt, just a factual statement that there exists a contract that the Rams have honored and the same is expected in return for good faith negotiations to continue. Again, that's just a guess on my part. I don't carry any grudge against Donald. He is an extremely rare talent who is admittedly underpaid, but it's time to realize that his employer has tried to do the right thing by him, but the prima donna is getting exposed or his agent is giving him really bad advice that could ultimately explode in Donald's face, ruining what could be an amazing career with years of accolades.
