IMHO the request for an opt out after three years is more likely to be about winning than signing a newer and bigger contract. So he would be giving the Rams three years to turn the ship around or he is going to bolt for a winner. He doesn't want to have Jackson's carrier. Hard to blame him for thinking that way.
The Rams essentially control him for three years anyways. He can bolt after three years if the Rams don't "turn the ship around". He wants paid.
