But the coaching he received that first season is really what most have an issue with it. Perhaps he should have sat all of last year (ideally) but he didn't and the QB and performance ahead of him didn't justify him sitting all year.

A stronger offensive coaching staff may have made last year significantly better even given his obvious limitations.

A lot went wrong in 2016. Putting a rookie in an offense without a running game was going to be a disaster. And why wasn't there a running game? Well there are a lot of reasons for that. The OL never coalesced in 2016 even though by the end of 2015, it looked like it was going to. Gurley himself fell off. I already see him running differently than he did in 2016. There was really only one receiver--Britt. And so on.

So honestly, all these declarations about what the coaching was in 2016 strike me as mostly being mantras. And, hyperbolic at that. A lot went wrong in 2016. It does not reduce to one thing. For example Weinke gets good buzz. That gets forgotten.


And ONE OF THE THINGS that made 2016 what it was, was that yes Goff was THAT green.

When he makes it as a continuing year to year NFL caliber starter he will be the first college Air Raid system qb to ever do it.

You could see by watching him that he was not comfortable yet in a pro system. Maybe he would have been better off on a team with an OL and running game and weapons but I don't know how much better off because he was just. That. Green.

That's just honestly how I feel. Well to me and what I saw he most certainly WAS that green, so much so that it's a decisive part of the entire 2016 story. So to me anyone who doesn;'t reach that same conclusion is just wrong. Naturally they think I am wrong, but just as naturally, just like them, I stick by what I saw. So yes we just differ. And only means that we irreconcilably see one football thing completely differently. Which is fine. We;ll agree on other things.
