What McVay is doing with his QB is what good coaches are supposed to do. Gurley's awful performance last year is proof that the Offensive mess was on the coach. Not enough attention was given to the offense. The talent was lacking on the offensive line and the recievers. Add to that some of the worst play calling and predictability of the offense and no QB or running back stood a chance of success, let alone a rookie QB.
I think the article points out what good coaches do and is not a slight on Goff. Add an improved O line, a recieving corps run presice routes, get separation and don't drop balls to good. play calling and the QB can develop and running backs have a real chance for success. Coaching by McVay appears to be just what the doctor ordered.
It also points out that a coach can only do so much, as evidenced by the lack of good qb play throughout the league.
