Whitworth on Gurley's 9 yard scrum

August 20, 2017 09:12AM
Loved this play so much that I broke it down in slow motion....

The play is designed to follow the RG but Gurley hops left when there's nothing there. Woods come down in the hole and whiffs on the CB #21. #35 is coming from the opposite direction and Whit gets a paw across his chest which moves up and just starts pushng. 21 gets Gurley's feet turned around so his backside is facing the way he wants to run. But Whit keeps gaining ground and soon Kupp/Woods are pushing from the left and Saffold is right behind Whit. Gurley's helmet appears in the scrum and he is still facing the wrong way. Finally they bring him down but that was impressive, to say the least.

Kudos to Kupp too as he walled off his man before joining the scrum and falling into the pile. I loved the drive and the desire to gain yards on what should have been a stop of no gain. They basically carried Gurley down the field.
