So, the rules may bend a little and that is why we may have heard of a potential opt-out clause getting in the way.
This is the second time I've read this. I don't think the Rams are that far apart on the money. It's that the agent wants Donald to hit the open market as soon as possible. Basically make him the highest paid defensive player with a front-loaded contract now, and then get him an even bigger in two years when he opts out.
Currently the Rams control him for 4 years. (Two on his contract and two franchise tags.) I don't think they're going to give that up. I know I wouldn't.
If I'm right, Donald's holdout could go for a long time. And while he's holding out, he won't be hurting for money. His agent has plenty.
With this agent I will be absolutely shocked if Donald spends his entire career with the Rams. Same with Bosa and the Chargers.
Isn't this just how Rams luck goes? The sun shines on their behinds one day and they are able to draft an all world player only to lose him in his prime. They will probably get a boatload of picks for him and then blow 99% of them just like they always seem to do. They'll draft a few Tye Hills, a Greg Robinson, and maybe a Jason Smith or two.
It's a sad state of affairs, but we've been here before.
