I understand that new in contracts QB's are being paid more but some QB's like Brady are making $20 million. I'm not sure it would matter to me if he, or any other top QB making about the same money, signed a few years ago. I think its too much for a DT but I'm good either way. My preference would be to walk away.
I'm not gonna judge men who are risking their lives and health in playing a game if they decide they need to get every dollar they deserve. Others can judge but I won't.
As we're seeing with more and more studies coming out, football is a very dangerous game.
When someone puts their health on the line, there should be NO expectation in society for that person to take a penny less than the maximum they can get.
Can YOU, your kids their kids and grandkids live off of ONE contract at about $70M guranteed?
Is $75M really going to make that big a difference in your life?
This is about CAA, I know how they work.
Except your title implied that he should take a discount under the principle that the best player should be a leader and take one for the team. That is judgement.
Sure, he and his family can live off of $70M for a long time. They can do that on $65M too. And $50M. Probably even $20M. Where does that line of reasoning stop?
Personally, if I'm putting my health on the line, if I can get $75M, then $70M isn't enough. I'd rather control that extra $5M than a billionaire owner.
Even if I had so much surplus for myself and my family, I'd still want it even if it's only to donate to my favorite charity. I don't see the sense in leaving money on the table.
The only exception is winning. If I was a player winning would also be important to me. I would take a discount when doing so would help my team win. Sorta like the Brady situation.
The Rams aren't at that level yet...
That sounds so contradictory ..... So if they are already winners I'll take less money to keep them winning, but if they're not, I'm gonna strangle their cap space so they can stay losers ???
Interesting.
The Rams will never get to "that level" if they're paying a DT like a top QB.
