I really do appreciate Donald's greatness.
But you just can't affect the outcome of a game from the DT position the way you can from the QB position. A great DT just doesn't elevate a team from a merely very good DT the way a great QB elevates a team from a merely very good QB. And I would argue the same that the LT position and possibly the rush OLB position and perhaps a couple of more positions have far more affect on game outcome and especially playoff game outcome than a DT.
I thought that Suh's contract was just stupid. Detroit must have as well because they traded him. Suh has played for 2 teams. Has he elevated either? Or has he been any more than an outstanding complimentary piece?
Would Detroit or Miami have perceptibly fewer wins without him?
They certainly have not become powerhouses WITH him.
And that is one heck of a lot of money and cap space to pay for a position that doesn't really affect the ebb and flow of a game greatly.
Who knows for sure what the Rams showed in the first preseason game is indicative of what we can expect in the regular season. But the Rams DLine did very well against a very good and deep Cowboys oline who already had one preseason game under their belt. What more could AD have done for them that is worth $20 mil per year?
I just don't want to see the Rams spend so dang much of their money on him that it impacts keeping or signing another important complimentary piece. And there is no way that if you pay a DT that much that it wouldn't.
