The New Orleans Saints have fired team orthopedists Deryk Jones and Misty Suri after a misdiagnosis of an injury to cornerback Delvin Breaux, according to a league source.

Breaux has missed the majority of training camp with what the team diagnosed as a leg contusion. On Monday, he underwent X-rays as part of a second opinion that revealed a fractured fibula that will keep him out for four to six weeks, the source said.

ESPN first reported the firings of Jones and Suri on Wednesday morning.

In 2016, Breaux missed six games and a total of seven weeks with a fibula fracture suffered in Week 1.

Breaux's camp sought a second opinion at Ochsner Medical Center on Monday after the team pressured him to return to the field, believing he was healthy enough to practice despite Breaux saying he was still in pain, according to a source.

Jones and Suri worked with the New Orleans Pelicans as well. Both the Saints and Pelicans have had issues with the handling of injuries in recent years.
