"it is impossible for that money to be allocated any better than putting it all into AD". I'm not much of an 'absolutist'.
That you must do what you can to hang on to 'elite' players is a given. "What you can". Obviously you don't give 100% of the Cap to AD and field 1 person for the season. The answer lies quite below that but there DOES exist a point.
"yes absolutely the position is invaluable" - yes, I would agree.... "The position" is. The specific person and money it takes to keep an individual? I don't see that as absolute at all.
If Demoff and the others weren't considering my point he'd be signed now. - JamesJM
No I would never put it that way. I would simply say that the smart move is to keep Donald. That's the smartest move, and it is clearly what both Philips and McVay want.
Maybe Demoff thought he did the smart thing with Jenkins too but it is clear he did not. Like I said, keeping the better corner for less and not putting 30 M on the less good corner is just not smart.
And if Demoff said this (which he did) and at the same time is lowballing AD, then IMO he's a snake.
Demoff (my transcript from an audio):
Quote
KD: #1, AD is a special player and deserves a special contract. Though sometimes that’s harder to structure when you have 2 years left as opposed to 1 or as opposed to a free agency year.
And I don't think Demoff is a snake. But if he does manage to lose both Donald and Jenkins, I will not think too highly of his football management skills.
