That you must do what you can to hang on to 'elite' players is a given. "What you can". Obviously you don't give 100% of the Cap to AD and field 1 person for the season. The answer lies quite below that but there DOES exist a point.
"yes absolutely the position is invaluable" - yes, I would agree.... "The position" is. The specific person and money it takes to keep an individual? I don't see that as absolute at all.
