Donald has taken this far too far. He has made a strategic mistake by refusing to show up.
Donald is only concerned about what he can get (not meaning that in the bad sense).
Rams have to deal with 52 other players and so what they give to Donald and how it's structured matters a great deal on how it will affect other contracts.
Rams know there is a line in the sand that cannot be crossed or they have screwed the pooch for all other contracts for star players on the roster.
I don't know, none of us know, exactly where they've placed the line. But clearly the line has been set or there would have been a deal.
I predict a VERY unhappy Donald is going to show up pretty soon and he is going to be missing a VERY large chunk of his salary this year paid in fines for refusing to honor his contract. Why should he be paid for the time he's not here when it is strictly a choice on his part to not participate in mandatory Training Camp?
Of course McVay has gone from understanding the business side of it to realizing, like most of us do, that Donald has no legal or contractual right on which to stand. The hissy fit has gone too far. The Rams tearing up his contract and giving him a new one would be a gift; nothing more. A gift they are under no obligation to give. But Donald IS under obligation.
Rams ought to be every bit as ticked off as Donald.....more, really. It is Donald refusing to honor his deal, not the Rams.
