Saw this on Reddit (credit to PhAnToM444 for posting). Put things into perspective for me. Related to Goff in 2016.
"Jared Goff probably came into the worst situation of any QB in recent memory and played as such.
Let's just recap:
He comes into a team who's just lost 4 of their last 5, already out of playoff contention. That one "win" by the way was over the 3-6 New York Jets, final score: 9-6.
The offense is dead last in yards and has scored more than one touchdown in less than half their games to that point. His WR corps is Kenny Britt, midrange WR2 jammed into a WR1 spot, Tavon Austin, an overpaid Gio Bernard, and Brian Quick, a guy who might start for the Redskins. Oh and he also has Todd Gurley who is getting stuffed every play because the receiving corps barely warrants single coverage, much less double.
So then we have the offensive line, ranked in the bottom few of the NFL. I'm pretty sure only two of them will be starting this year. They provide the QB about as much protection as a sheet of dollar store tinfoil.
So, uh, welcome to the NFL Goff.
In your first game you will play the playoff Miami Dolphins. Then you'll head to New Orleans where you'll grab 3 touchdowns but the defense decided to take the day off and give up 49 points. So then you head to Super Bowl-winning New England and come back home to play Super Bowl-losing Atlanta. You will then head to yet another playoff team in division rival Seattle, notoriously impossible to beat at home. Then you'll come home to struggling San Francisco where you'll again put up a few touchdowns only to lose to a @#$%& terrible two point conversion with 30 seconds left in the 4th. To cap off the season you'll take the broken team out on the field to not try against the Cardinals. To clarify, Goff played 4 playoff teams, including both sides of the Super Bowl in 7 starts.
Oh and after 3 starts, his head coach, who coached offense at a high school level, got fired and replaced by a life long special teams coach.
I prefer to think last year didn't really count. We are coming back with a new offense and a new coaching staff. I think we will know if Goff is going to work out somewhere around week 10. But until then, I think it's wait and see time."
2016 was a Mulligan, we will see a different Goff in 2017.
R.I.P. Nelson aka TonyHunter87 1971 - 2017 far too soon..
Your last words to me: "Your a great guy RFIP. I was very sad when you left the board, and your son, but was glad to see you back. Take care my friend, may God be by your side." 09/09/2017 12:58AM
No Nelson, you were a far better man than I, and I am sure an awesome husband and father as well. I will miss you my friend. -RFIP
