I'll go this route, Philly was much further along last year, better (not great) play makers, much better OL, strong D, one of 3 teams to beat Dallas & Wentz played well for a rook.
Eagles went 7-9.
Well that certainly sounds reasonable as a comparison.
But I would qualify it a bit.
Wentz started strong but then in games 5-16 his average qb rating was 71. In those games he threw 9 TDs and 11 INTs. Seems to me that while he started ahead, he still slid back to being a rookie qb. And in those games he had both a real running game (11th in yards) and the league's 13th ranked defense (12th in points). All of that was with one of the league's easiest schedules.
So another way to put this whole issue is, can Goff 2017 play better than Wentz did in games 5-16? And that's not a very high bar. If Goff is averaging a qb rating in the 80s, then he's already passing this test.
Fwiw, I was never a Goff v. Wentz type of poster, btw. I like Goff but I could have seen them taking Wentz. So I never approach this issue with "need to deflate Wentz" -itis kinds of motives. When he does well more power to him, except when the Eagles play the Rams.
