An NFL players career can be over in a blink, I wouldn't like it either.
A one year franchise at $16M vs a 4-5 year deal with $25-$30M guranteed is a prodigious difference.
Plus it takes away a players leverage.
I would HATE it as a player.
Tru basically just got two years and about $30 million guarantee.....not a bad deal.
They had that option with the franchise tag and should have done it especially IF they're not even sure he fits the defense.
Just stoooopid handling of a marginal player.
They couldn't Josh Norman him as he signed his tag immediately, probably so they couldn't do that to him. Josh Norman never signed his and left that option open.
I thought they tagged him on March 1 and he signed it on March 5th or 6th.
I think they had until the 15th to place the tag so I dunno what the hurry was.
But I could be wrong on the dates, going by memory here.
