in that colorful, dreamy, way one remembers things that happened in their very young years. But I'm not sure I remember him as a Ram. Most likely as an Eagle, (heresy, I know).
I don't know, never will know, exactly which year I became a true Ram fan... I always say 1958 but really just an educated guess. Norm was gone by then, to the Eagles. I can't even say how much football, in general, I watched before becoming a Ram fan.. some, for sure.. but a year? two? I don't remember.
Most of what I know about him, (as a player, I knew him well as a coach), came through very rare clips I saw on TV sports shows. When I did 'officially' become a Ram fan I was instantly passionate about them... read everything I could.. all their history.. including the Cleveland years. Long gone now but through I'd say the 70's you couldn't name an active or ex-Ram I didn't know about, and knew about 'in detail'.
I'm reminded about those days... I was definitely hit by the thunderbolt with the Rams. Any player, or coach, or anyone else that passed through the organization was a hero of mine. I still have a little of that in me... players traded, for example, I often keep track of, I nearly always wish them well.
