Like yes, I'm ready for a preponderance of "solid football guys" over "athletic freaks", but I do know that smarts only gets you so far in a physically demanding game.
But I'm getting the feeling McVay is getting most of what he wants, and the rest he truly believes he can make do. That's encouraging. And unlike the Rams themselves, McVay has not yet given me a reason not to believe. Listening to the interview with Eisen, he sounds so different as a coach. Instead of emanating the "quiet competence of experience and confidence", he's eager and cheerful and obviously very sharp. I liked it when he started to go to the next level regarding how to build a team, noting that it's not as simple as building "outside in".
It sounds like he's hungry. That is something we've really missed under Fisher, and this little dude is the anti-Fisher. That alone is enough to excite me, but when you throw in that he's not sounding at all out of his depth and his moves in the offseason have appeared measured and shrewd, I'm beyond ready to see him succeed as a coach. Not just because I love the Rams, but I just like guys like McVay.
If I may be so bold, he is just a tad reminiscent of me in my youth.
Oof, is the HC really 4+ years younger than me?
