Every team looks like a Superbowl contender to their coaches, FO and players during OTAs.
For me it's not even when the pads go on because camp is camp, and preseason is preseason. None of it counts and it is not played the way real games are played.
When they start playing games for real will be when we have any idea what this team is about.
That said: I do have reason to have faith in what Phillips and McVay say. They'd be crazy to pump up the defense and offense respectively if they didn't think things were looking pretty good only to build up expectations and fall flat. The DO have benchmarks from successful programs/units to measure against. Neither have been effusive in praise; but both speak well about the progress and the performance and the quality of players and even of specific players (Brown, Havenstein, Goff, Kupp, for instance).
Fisher, especially as it comes to offense, had far less credibility and it was utterly pointless to believe anything he said about his team or its players.
