People keep forgetting Jeff Fisher had final say over personnel, not Snead. I'm not giving Snead a pass, but Fisher spoke about when they did a private workout with Quick at Appalachian State, they brought backup QB Kellen Clemens with them and after the workout, Clemens said to Fisher, "We have to get this guy." Again Quick wowed them, but his football IQ was low and he was raw in his route running.
Again one thing I like about McVay is, football IQ is rated high and with the picks like Quick & Robinson, that is where the Fisher regime fell short in some cases. Again Fisher had Vermeil power, the coach was hired before the GM and Fisher signed off on Snead. Rams lost out on a couple of other executives (George Paton Vikings) because the Head Coach had the final word in their structure under Fisher.
Snead spoke out about that workout too, and he endorsed it.
They got 3 starters out of that draft, 4 if you count Zuerlein (which I do), and given that they had 10 picks, that's 40% which is acceptably decent. By way of contrast, Green Bay, which regularly drafts well, hit on 3 starters/significant contributors in that draft, and out of 8 picks that is 37.5%.
The Rams did whiff on 2 second rounders in 2012, but then they didn't do that again after the 2012 draft...their 2nd rounders after that are Joyner and Hav, both current starters.
I like the 2017 draft so far but it is still premature to say whether McVay/Snead drafts better than Fisher/Snead. If they do, it;'s gravy, because overall Fisher/Snead drafted pretty well.
