Even though you think in phrases (lol!).
Snead has always made it clear that he drafts according to what the HC wants.
It has always been clear to me that Fisher had final say on all draft picks (but I doubt there were very many dogfights over draft picks).
Snead was ecstatic over how clear and precise McVay is on exactly what he is looking for in very single position.
So Snead is not the kind of GM who builds the team in his own mold (Ted Thompson). Rather he is in the mold of building the team according to the vision of the HC.
So, will Snead succeed? Don't know. But all you have to do is look at this draft to see the shift in gears. Totally different kind of TE. Totally different kinds of WRs from before. And of course, 3-4 OLBs instead of 3-4 DEs. Very versatile Safety selected (notice also how versatile Joyner is at FS, and Alexander can play both free and strong Safety).
I think this change also plays into Kromer's philosophy of Oline. He sees OGs and RT a bit different than Fisher/Boudreaux apparently did, as seen by flip flopping Brown and Havenstein. Apparently great lateral movement isn't the big deal for OGs, but smarts is. And apparently at RT he wants great physicality with a run-blocking mentality, but also a RT who has the ability to control FIRST inside moves, and SECOND bull rushes, and THIRD outside speed moves.
For LT......great pass blocking first and foremost. Secondarily, good enough run blocking. Watch for the Rams to be a very right-handed running team.
So of course the FAs were selected by Snead to fit McVay's (and Phillip's) definitions.
I'm pulling for Snead.
