Even after having a really good 2016 I'm still fine with them losing Jenkins. I don't think that hurts them. But extending Austin vs. just simply picking up and letting him play out his 5th year option was a big mistake. I just never understood the logic of that one.
Instead of having him play at a $12.2M cap number for 2017 and having him totally off the books in 2018, he carries a $15.0M cap number this year (could some of that $2.8M difference be used to extend Ogletree- far more deserving?) and has an $8.0M cap number in 2018 that includes $5.0M guaranteed.
