Agree except for one typo in your response.
GRob wasn't a valuable 2nd ROUND pick, he was an immensely valuable second OVERALL pick. AND the 18m. Which makes it look even worse for Snead/Fisher. So long, Senor Busto.

So the Rams just simply went shopping for any trade that got them that cap savings.
They simply gave up on GRob and wanted to try and get the best deal they could for him.
A 6th was all they could get, they're backs were against a wall.
They essentially invested a valuable
2nd rd pick plus about $18M in a player that gave them nothing.
On the field nor in trade.
.
It was really just between cutting him or taking whatever they could get in a trade. The point of the trade was that they saved 3.3 M against the cap.
Gonzalez reported yesterday that he was taking reps with the scout team. That meant he was gone either way.
I am glad under the circumstances they got the cap savings. That helps.
My bet btw is that Snead is just fine. This draft and last year's draft will mean a lot more than the 2014 draft, Some will never forget that they spent a #2 on a bust and always downgrade Snead. Some will factor that in with other things and not judge it that way. IMO if the last 2 drafts produce any players, Snead is on solid ground, no matter how much some fans count GR against him.
IMO Goff will count for a heck of a lot more in the end. If that pans out, along with any of the 2017 picks, then, the negative view won't hold.
As for this:

I was simply pointing out that once they decided he was a gone a trade for anything meant cap savings, which was better than cutting him and getting no cap savings.
