I acknowledge that McVay targeted Everett on day 2, but I doubt Everett would have been the pick if Engram was there at 37. I'm sure the Rams caught wind that Engram would be going in round one, it was being reported to us a couple of days before the draft. At that point I believe McVay and the Rams were all in on Everett.
They are close, but Engram is a physical freak, 4.42 40 with much bigger hands than Everett and he's from a major program. Who knows who will turn out to be the better pro, but Engram is the better prospect.
This draft came down to 2 things: The Rams belief in their current OL talent and McVays desire to fill the roster with skill players that fit his system so he can run his playbook. McVay didn't have that going into draft. He dumped Britt, Quick, Kendricks. So there were significant voids.
You have to acknowledge that they had a specific plan, they did not scatter shoot the draft and/or take BPA that may be better value. Was that the best approach? Time will tell.
But hey lets be optimistic. At least until we see what these guys can do.
