I think Joyner is going to be our starting FS. That's where he made a name for himself at FSU.
It isn't just his athleticism. And it surely isn't his small size. It is his instincts and play making that is the thing.
If Cody Davis doesn't win it over Joyner (I don't think he can) he offers good depth.
As for CB. I just am not sure. EJ Gaines took a step back, for sure. But who on the Rams didn't? And besides, he was coming off a serious career threatening injury. Yes, there are some very good CBs that will be available in the 2nd and probably the 3rd. But this team needs offensive talent way more than it needs defensive talent. If any D player was chosen, I would think Edge Rusher/OLB would be the position. Not anything in the Secondary.
Bottom line: makes no sense to draft any Safeties considering our needs elsewhere.
I share your concerns about CB, Rock.
Not for this year, but for '18 and beyond.
Tru is looking like a one year rental.
Gaines' foot scares me, and he's a FA next year, anyway.
Webster is on a short contract.
Coleman is on a short contract.
Joyner sounds like he's moving to FS.
And here we are staring at a bountiful crop of CB's for Wade to develop... And they say that Wade needs good press CB's to make his D run smoothly.
A CB at #37 wouldn't surprise me one bit. Maybe even a second CB later.
'Course, there are maybe 6 other positions that wouldn't surprise me one bit, either.
