As far as Safety being a need to rate as high a #3?
For starters Snead's roster has 2 NFL starters who have played both safety positions in Mo Alexander & Mark Barron. MB being much more SS type & MA being a true hybrid of both safety post. Fact is there was recent article singing MO's praises as having greatly improved his NFL games this past season @ safety. Both of these safeties are highly talented & only 27 & 26 yrs old. In addition DB Lamarcus Joyner has been a Ram starter mostly for 3 seasons @ numerous secondary positions. Playing safety is not new to him he played safety on 3 FSU championship teams. If we just stopped here please someone tell me where this issue?
Now lets get deep into detail here in this secondary. Start with a 4 yr Ram FS who has played in 58 NFL games. He is a ST ace who has starts under his belt ...27 yr old Cody Davis who is the fastest defensive player on the team & off the charts athletically. CD is a known ball hawk who can cover serious ground if a single high deep safety is in need. I would not count out Cody getting much more deep safety playing time in Wades defense than with Fisher.
With the two recent signings of two talented young veteran UFA corners (Kayvon Webster[54 NFL games] & Nickell Robey-Coleman [64 NFL games]) is going to push former starting outside corner since 2014 EJ Gaines looking for a new position for some action. If the Rams draft a few corners & Troy Hill matures, EJ time as a outside corner is over. Back before the 2014 draft many draft guru's thought that EJ going into the NFL would be a better FS or Nickle-back than outside corner. I happen to think FS & reserve Nickel post is where EJ will make a living from this point on.
Then there's last years drafted 5th & 6th round selections Safety DB's Blake Countess & Marqui Christian. MC is a little more more SS than FS type. Countess is more FS/Nickle type. After Joyner was injured Countess had two outstanding games starting in Joyner position. Then there is last yrs surprise Brian Randolph & we had a large thread a few months back discussing his pro's & cons that this safety brings to the roster....but BR needs to remain healthy. The last 2 safeties on this roster are Isaiah Johnson & Jerome Couplin. Both of these are more SS than FS. If you have not been counting that's 10 possible safety prospects.
