...Thomas was actually a very good receiver in college with very good hands. I think Thomas was effected by the incompetence that was the Rams offense and offensive coaching last season.
Grits
Mike Thomas didn't have very good hands in college in terms of drops.
PFF tracks this stuff and they had him at a 9% drop rate. He dropped 7 of 78 catchable balls. Contrast that with Spruce who only dropped 4 of 93 for a 4.3% drop rate.
Thomas did have a better drop rate than Corey Coleman, Treadwell, and Will Fuller though.
Mike Thomas was credited with having very good because he routinely made tough contested catches. But he did drop his fair share. I'd expect that to continue.
Yeah, if drops is a coachable thing then Thomas could be a very productive WR. A 6th round steal, even.
But I don't know if it's coachable, tbh.
He'll have just this one summer to impress his coaches, but no more. I like him and hope he makes it, for obvious reasons. But if the dropsies continue, I think that they'll have to go to another WR on this roster with a lower ceiling but better hands. Goff needs receivers that can catch the damned ball. Period.
