No. That's not "the right way." It's
one way. That approach can fail too and has.
There is no one way to build an OL. Certainly relying heavily on top draft picks is one approach. But there are other approaches too.
In fact every year going back years and years there are top OLs that were NOT built THAT way, but built one of the other good ways.
Free agency, lower draft picks, trades, and so on.
For example Vermeil had top OLs everywhere he went (Phil, St,L, KC) and only two of his OL players in all those places combined were high 1st round picks. (KC didn't pick Roaf...they traded a conditional 3rd rounder for him).
In fact when you add them all up, the Vermeil OLs had more "cast offs" and UDFAs over the years than 2nd and 1st round picks combined.
Dallas did well but there are other ways to build a line.
For example, free agency can be part of it too (Timmerman, Whitworth).
