There are a number of factors that could take clear round 1 talents and push them down into the 2nd. From injuries, to off field issues, to teams taking someone in round one to fill a needs position.
I think the Rams could find themselves staring at all of these available: 1st round WR, Safety, CB, Edge Rusher and even an OT. If you think Engram is a 1st rounder in most years (I do) then you can throw that in there as well. Good problem to have especially when you don't have a 1st round pick. But.....BIG decision to make the right pick among those.
I look at various reasonably reliable draft sites and after the first 5 spots or so, they're all over the map because it is very difficult to match a player to a team. And, when you get to the bottom third of round one, you can see guys all the way to 40 on some draft boards in the 1st round on other boards, and guys as early as 22 or 23 in the 1st round in some boards show up as the 40th pick on other boards.....so tightly packed are (about) picks 20 - 40......maybe even 20-45.
So the Rams ought to just sit there, smile, and let the draft come to them. For Pete's sake take the top player on their board. I don't care what position except at QB or RB. Better players make better teams. But.....if there is a grouping of co-equal players at WR, TE, CB and Edge Rusher, I take the offensive skill player. The Defense has its starters, and is really only looking for depth (except perhaps at FS, but I think Joyner is going to do a great job there).
The offense needs some starters at WR and TE. Maybe even Oline.
