My point is its apples (just play the game) and oranges (score). You can really only combine the two in "coach speak". I.e. If you play your heart out and still lose you likely are not going to go out and celebrate the "effort". And the reverse is true: If you play lousy and make mistakes and the other team screws up and you somehow "win" the chances are your not celebrating either. Indeed no coach is going to tell his players "Ok now-here's the trick- we want to win the game" Its about Xs and Os. I just think we make too much about jargon speak. To me "just play hard and the score will take care of itself" is meaningless. The former (play hard) is organic the latter (the score) is not.
