I believe Jackson was primarily considered an excellent run blocker. His experience at FSU (42 starts) was ideal. Not a great combine performer and a better player than athlete.
He genuinely played well as a rookie. I think he was allowed to leave because (1) Mason and Thuney played so well last year and (2) his injury issues. There's never been any rumors about his attitude, work ethic, etc.
It's a low risk move for a young player that was well-regarded two years ago coming out. He had arthroscopic (not major) knee surgery last August so you would think he's ready to roll. On talent alone he's
at minimum a top backup.
