they've had these guys in the training room for a week plus now, and having met the guys and see how they interact, and their physiques, and intelligence.
busting a move only serves to tell the guards on the roster that time to put it together is coming to a close.

If Kromer fielded 4 out of 5 new OL guys come opening day, would it be shocking?

I think every player there realizes the team will be adding people, including pick-ups like this and also in the draft. I doubt it's perceived as a "message." Just business as usual.

I also assume they don't need a message anyway and that all of them realize that with a new OL coach comes new eyes, judgments, and ways of doing things, and that when that happens, there can be big changes.

So yes the Rams have a lot of young linemen already on the roster, but on the other hand, Kromer didn't pick them.
