Billy Long worked his way through each unit on the team. "Gotta go to work!" became the unofficial team slogan, heartily endorsed by Vermeil,
First, no one is claiming that a slogan won the games.
Second, Billy Long was a barbeque chef Vermeil hired as part of team morale building. He would attend team events during training camp and feed them scrumptuously and then lead units doing the cheer "gotta go to work!" That cheer was all Long. And the team loved it. Vermeil bought into the slogan but he did not invent it.
Basically it amounts to this. There's nothing wrong with it, and it's part of team lore and tradition.
No one says it would have made up for not having Faulk, Warner, Bruce, or Holt.
