Because it is not possible to develop two QBs simultaneously

April 11, 2017 08:27AM
In today's environment, it is not possible to develop two QBs simultaneously.
The time restrictions between QB and coach are too great.
And the lower state of development a college QB comes out with makes the distance too big between draftee and NFL starter.

So the Rams are going to have to pick one and stay with him. The obvious choice is Goff for every reason from arm talent to age to being the 1st pick in the draft.

Everything I have read says that McVay agreed to commit to Goff or he never would have been hired. Of course.

And while it has not been mentioned, the change in DC from RG3 to Cousins is nothing like the situation with the Rams. RG3 was damaged goods. He simply didn't seem to able to run a passing game that depended on an accurate drop back passer and quick reads. RG3's game depends on his legs; and without them, he simply isn't an NFL quality QB.

Goff is the right KIND of QB. If McVay and Snead are to be believed, the issue is lack of knowledge and lack of complementary players. We'll see over the next several months if they are right.

But the only way Mannion or Murray gets that much attention is if the assessment of Goff changes rapidly, or if he gets hurt. In fact, this is the usual reason that a back-up QB is an experienced vet. It is because he isn't given that many reps or that much development attention. It all goes to the starter.
