2 (37)- S Budda Baker, Washington
3 (69)- G Dan Feeney, Indiana
4 (112)- TE Gerald Everett, South Alabama
4 (141)- WR Amara Darboh
4 QBs and 3 RBs in the first round start pushing some really good players down to round two. Rams eye the TE Njoku who goes off the board 4 picks earlier to Cleveland at #33. Taco Charlton slides and Wade Phillips starts getting very excited but the Bears wisely take him at 36. Joe Mixon is the highest rated player on their board but Rams pass. Also consider Engram but the TE depth makes them stick with Baker as the pick as the highest graded remaining defensive player. He steps in as Joyner's backup at FS and competing with Robey-Coleman at nickel back.
In round three the Rams are discussing taking the CB Tankersley but he is taken by the 49ers at #66. Feeney's value is too good even as the Rams are being criticized for not giving Goff more weapons. Feeney is penciled in as the backup RG but his performance in camp and preseason slides Rob Havenstein back to RT and Greg Robinson becomes the most expensive OL 6th man in the NFL.
Day three begins and the Rams are again drooling over the quality players that seem to be dropping. And yet again a favorite is taken just a couple picks before by the 49ers as JuJu Smith-Shuster goes to San Francisco at #109. Their top-rated offensive player on their board is selected in South Alabama TE Gerald Everett. 29 picks later WR Amara Darboh, well-regarded and considered a late 3rd round value, is sitting on the board and the Rams quickly turn in his card.
Even while waiting until round 4, the Rams add two solid prospects for the passing game while bolstering secondary and OL depth (and future starters) in Baker and Feeney.
