Unless there is some FREAKISH OLB/DE that reminds Wade Phillips of Lawrence Taylor...........That's the only way we don't select an offensive player.
I must respectfully disagree, oldschool.
A strong case could be made for different players from 7 different position groups for our pick at #37.
Depends on who falls.
Also depends on who the Ram brain trust feels is most likely to produce for years and years, AND at a position that will be scarce in this particular draft at later pick(s).
Couple of examples might be OL (Lamp) or LB (Watts).
There WILL be quality players, possibly starting quality, at WR, TE, CB, and S deeper in this draft, reportedly. At least through 4th round, maybe a C in the 5th.
So, if the Rams want to play draft chess instead of draft checkers, maybe the smart play is to heavily factor the "scarcity issue" in their decision? It would kinda shake up many fan's projections, but we all might be smiling as we see play on the field this year and for years thereafter.
Just playing devil's advocate here. I'm trying to illustrate the wheels within wheels thinking that must be going into the Rams thinking as they plan for numerous scenarios at #37.
