Rams worst offense in NFL and now have 9 cbs on roster although Joyner may be moving to fs
Well, ferragamo, there are CB's and then there are CB's.
Let's talk starter quality CB's.
TruJo. One year $16.7 million rental and reportedly on the trading block. NOT a long term CB prospect.
Webster. Short term signing and not yet a proven starter quality player.
Joyner. Slot CB that is rumored to be moving to FS.
Coleman. Another newbie short term signing with limited starts as a slot CB.
Gaines. Who knows if his foot injury will ever fully recover? Can't count on him until that is resolved.
Those are our "starting caliber" CB's.
The remaining CB corps is inexperienced and definitely unproven.
Sooooo...
Are we really all that deep at CB? Enough to pass on a BPA at #37 that happens to be a CB?
And what will our CB corps look like in '18 unless we start preparing now?
I think an O player at #37 is a distinct possibility, but hardly a lock.
I see a CB taken in either the 2nd or 3rd round, tbh. Comes down to value/need combo.
I think we see this one differently 43...
TruJo - He's penciled in as a starter. Yes there is a need for NEXT year but that can be said about nearly every position group. IF they trade him, then they probably draft a CB high.
Webster - Brought in to be a starter and signed for 2 years. And given that Wade is already very familiar with him, that's likely what will happen.
Joyner - Probably does move to FS, but rumored to play slot CB in nickle sets. Between him and Coleman, a slot CB is not a need.
Coleman - Definitely didn't characterize this one correctly IMO. He didn't have limited starts as a slot CB. He actually played quite a bit for a slot CB. 53% of the snaps in 2016. Approx. 60% in '15 and '14 and 53% in '13. And how do we know it's a short term signing?
Gaines - I agree on the uncertainty of his injury. That's why Webster was brought in. I think their intent has Webster penciled in as the starter anyway.
It appears to me that they are taking care of the D in free agency so they can focus on offense in the draft. IMO a CB at 37 now is a remote possibility.
