Unnecessary brutality in football may ultimately lead to its demise. In recent years, a great deal has come out about head injuries and how they affect the quality of life after football. This puts the future of football in jeopardy. A few major lawsuits down the line, it seems possible that high schools could start banning football. I think it's foolish for players to spend years developing their skills only to have them blunted from the pounding. All those years for a QB to develop passing skills and to learn the game only to take a pounding of the body and the brain. I am currently struggling to recover from a bout with sciatica, which has given me a better perspective of the pain that many pro football players must deal with after their careers. I started to lose interest in the NFL in the early 1980s due to the senseless brutality. My interest was rekindled when the Rams drafted Eric Dickerson, but it has waned from time to time over the years. The Rodney Harrison hit on Trent Green and various spearing incidents involving wide receivers are among the worst cases.
