So $2.6M in cap space this year is now considered a "mere rounding error" huh?
LOL, okey dokey.
Sorry 43, but I'd go to your bank to get a lollipop, but not to cash a check.

Barnes had a cap number of $3.35 million for the Rams. They will owe him $775,000 next season. Here’s how Pro Football Rumors reacted to the roster decision: “Last year, Barnes re-signed with the Rams on a two-year, $5.6MM deal with $2.5MM guaranteed. His $750K roster bonus would have become guaranteed for injury if he remained on the team on the third day of 2017 league year (later this week). That would have become fully guaranteed if he remained on the roster through June 17.” That saves the team a total of $2.6M in cap space. Expect the Rams to also release starting tight end Lance Kendricks. That move will clear up $4.25M in cap space as well.
Geez, la. You're completely missing my point.
Rams save $2.6 million by releasing Barnes.
True, but they have to turn around and spend that same approximate amount to sign a Groy type FA.
So, in their mind, where's the substantial cap savings benefit with the Barnes release?
Hint: There is none.
Therefore...
The motivation for the Barnes release was OTHER than cap savings as Alden Gonzales suggested. Has to be because they knew they needed to upgrade at C. Just had to.
