There are 3/4 defenses in the league which play a 3-tech DT on the right side instead of a traditional 3/4 DE. Arizona did it with Calais Campbell for example.
Campbell is not a dedicated 3-tech in their scheme. There are times when he plays their in their sink or Bear front and he rushes from there in nickle, kind of, but that's not what a 3-tech DT is.. and teams don't play "a 3-tech DT on the right side instead of a traditional 3/4 DE" right and left has nothing to do with what a 3-tech is.
Cambell in the 3-4 one gap base or when they went 4-3 was on the shade of the center as much as anything. But moved around, sometimes a 5-tech...but versus Rams they do the Bear or "sink" 3-4 a lot, to stop Gurley
A better Zona example would have been Darnell Dockett who was a 3-tech when they were 4-3 but when they moved to the hybrid 3-4 Dockett stayed as a 3-tch, usally, and was not a 3-4 DE. That's what made it the hybrid 3-4 they went to whenever that was, maybe 8-9 years ago.
I based what I said on things like this:

Calais Campbell is typically thought of as being a prototypical base 3-4 end, a 5-technique, but the Cardinals lineman spent over half of his snaps in 2014 as a 3-tech.
But that's me reading and not analyzing games so I stand corrected. If Dockett is a better example, then so be it.
The main point though stands of course. Donald, says both McVay and Phillips, will play 3-tech not DE. My only thing is that I think that's true of Easley too. I don't think Easley fits the physical profile of a Phillips DE. I think Easley backs up Donald and also joins him in 4-man lines in pass-rush packages. Or they could at times have both Donald and Easley play inside the tackles at the same time in a kind of double 3-tech type 3 man line. But my hunch is, Phillips will put a more traditional (for him) 6'4" guy at DE in the base 3/4.
I also think that in the base 3-DL defense anyway Donald will be predominantly on the right side. They could have Quinn come up and get in a 3-point stance and shift Donald to the other side, and then Ogletree is just a traditional weakside LB when they do that. But this is minutia.
