Why doesn’t Easley fit your definition of the speed-rushing, highly agile end who’s bigger than the outside backer? Easley being a Donald clone is a great speed-rusher and is highly agile. And at 283 lbs, he’s got good size.
Of course he lacks the height. Is that where the issue is?
I like Easley. Was happy they picked him up and re-signed him. But he's not the traditional weak-side 3-4 end. Though, as others have pointed out -- and I really didn't know before -- Phillips doesn't use that traditional scheme. Main reason, yes, is his lack of height. But he's also not really a "bender," like Quinn. Yes, he's pretty agile and quick for a DT. But not really in Quinn's class there. He, like Donald, from my observations of the Rams at least, is more a straight ahead guy, with surprising power for his relatively small size. Kind of a tweener. As is Donald. Both of them shouldn't even be able to
be effective as DTs, but they are, with Donald being all-world, etc.
But, as mentioned already, it may work just fine. I'm just saying the Rams should at least draft another speed-rushing, bend-it-like-Beckham type (like Quinn) to play opposite Donald. Again, at least within the rotation. And you really can never have too many of those guys anyway.
