If Wichmann could have done it, my guess is he would have been starting already.
I hate going into the draft with a need because you're easily leapfrogged and almost always have to trade up to get the player you want to ensure that doesn't happen.
Now if we like Rouiller and Fuller and Toth as much as Pocic and Elflein, that's fine ... but if not, that takes a prime pick from us ... we want to be able to wait until round 4. But we may not be able to.
In Kromer and McVay I trust, Alyo. They know that a C is needed. And I'm sure they've considered all of their options.
They seem to have done an excellent job of evaluating current players and addressing needed upgrades elsewhere so far. No reason to assume that C will be any different. In fact, they've already made one attempt to fix that position, huh?
They will get us a C that is an upgrade over Barnes. I'm certain of it.
Groy might have ended up an overrated failed replacement for Tim Barnes 43 but going into the 2017 draft with no starting center on the roster seems like a very bad idea. As of today, It seems likely that the Rams will be drafting a center with their 2nd or 3 round pick.
Maybe not and they end up fortunate with a steal in the 4th or 5th. On the surface cutting Barnes and failing to get Groy puts them behind the 8 ball. This might work out for the best but losing Groy and looking at what players are left on the free agent market for centers is pretty sad.
As of today the center position is a guessing game that would've been much better off with Barnes or Groy on the roster heading into day 2 of the draft when the Rams make their fist selection.
How anyone can truly believe Cody Wichmann, Andrew Donnal or Demetrius Rhaney will end up being the staring Center in 2017 is beyond my comprehension.
Maybe I'm still bitter that they cut Barnes and Groy ended up back with the Bills. No matter the reasons, I put a high premium on the center position going into 2017 and until it's resolved, this is a bad situation for #16.
