I'm more optimistic about a first year winning record than you are, Paul. Big surprise, huh?
Somewhere between 8-10 wins this year.
I see improvements everywhere I look.
Too many to itemize, really. But the cumulative effect could be substantial.
It all comes down to how they protect and develop Goff. He's the X factor, no doubt.
Anyway...
I'm optimistic. I think a 10-6 record is an achievable goal.
Goff must have impressed you more than me as a rookie. I see a lot more development time than you do on his horizon.
You are that confident the OL and WR/TE corps are that greatly improved already? I don't know about that.
You think Wade Phillips will come in right away and have his Rams newly implemented 3-4 up and running immediately with the current personnel that does have holes to fill?
I`d be ecstatic with an 8-8 with a new coaching staff after last seasons 4-12 season under Fisher. That`s 100% more wins than last season and the future looking bright. There was never a future with Fisher and many of us here knew that long before he was finally fired.
Yeah, I'm optimistic about Goff in the hands of a competent coaching staff, Paul. I think Fisher's guys were just that bad. Goff had no chance in that fubar of an O from top to bottom. I sense that these guys get it. Not predicting Pro Bowl for Goff, but I could see middle of the pack this year. I can't overstate this. McVay and his staff appear to be light years ahead of Fisher's, especially on O.
OL, WR, and TE are a work in progress. But I strongly believe three things. 1) A quality TE and WR will be added to this roster, probably via draft. Might bring in some outsiders to compete, as well. 2) This staff will be infinitely better teachers than the old one. Techniques will be perfected like we haven't seen in years. 3) With the addition of Whit and a new C, plus Kromer's influence on the other 3 starters on the OL, I fully expect a night and day improvement in the OL overall. That alone could mean 3-4 more wins than last year.
I expect Wade to be given a couple more pieces. Maybe a LB, almost surely a quality CB, maybe a drafted FS gem. A DL player along the way, too. But yeah, I really DO expect Wade to field a good D come opening day. There will be growing pains, but Wade's record speaks for itself.
Not the least bit worried about Fassel and his ST, either.
I stand by my projection of 8-10 wins.
