Whit is an outlier as far as age is concerned. Everybody says he's shown no signs of tapering off. Been a top 5 LOT. Reasonable to expect high production for another year, maybe two.
Whit is healthy as a horse. No lingering ankle injuries and re-injuries with him.
Whit's salary is in keeping, if not low, for a top shelf LOT these days.
NONE of those statements apply to the Mangold of '17.
So I strongly disagree with your statement that Mangold is better than any alternative at this point. Heck, BARNES would be a better alternative than the '17 crippled Mangold.
